The L-Word: Watertown Edition
Wednesday, October 21 at 7pm in the Watertown Free Public Library (123 Main St, Watertown)
Speaker: Robin Bernstein, Dillon Professor of American History and Professor of African and African American Studies and of Studies of Women, Gender, and Sexuality, Chair, Program in American Studies, Harvard University
Come hear stories of Watertown's unexpectedly vast lesbian history: love affairs, rivalries, friendships, art-making, betrayals, breakups, ill-advised living arrangements, and other sapphic shenanigans. The evening's heroine is Harriet Hosmer, a sculptor, mischief-maker, and lover of women (soooo maaaaany women) who grew up in Watertown. Her name graces Watertown's elementary school.
All are welcome, but pre-registration is requested (https://watertownlib.assabetinteractive.com/calendar/the-l-word-watertown-edition/). The event is appropriate for teens and adults. If giddy gossiping about local lesbians of the past sounds like fun to you, please come.
